Hello, it’s Mikaela and welcome to my space in the web: Refinery Records!
I always wanted to write since grade 5. It’s in fact, the level I started to be a campus journalist. At the start, winning contests drove me above all. But this changed when I entered high school. It took me on my sophomore year before our school publication let me in. It was a roller coaster ride and I can feel the adrenalin rush just by recalling it.
I found my break on that same year when I qualified for the National Schools Press Conference. Even I can’t believe it at first for my chance of getting selected among all participating schools in NCR was very little. I may have lost my first Nationals but I thank God that He gave me two more years to regain myself in NSPC including my service as the president of the National Secondary Editors Guild 2012-2013 and finally winning with my collaborative publishing team the following year.
Entering college, it was a hard decision for me to choose Electronics Engineering in FEU-East Asia College over Communication in UP Baguio where I qualified. Though I intended to shift to Journalism in UP Diliman after a year in FEU, I guess it’s a divine intervention how I got into the degree I am pursuing now: Communication Research. After all, journalism will always have a special spot in my heart.
Through this all, I look back and stand in awe with how God subjects us in the refinery since Day 1. I can't imagine life if I'll still be the same as yesterday. His work on our lives is still in progress and that’s what fuels me to focus on the possibilities rather than my current vulnerabilities. Let’s hold on to our faith as we let Him refine our characters for we are sure of this, that He who began a good work in us will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).
Still working on it. This blog is a documentation of an imperfect girl as she seeks perfection in His sight.
Enjoy browsing!
Love,
Mika
