10 Things my hometown made me realize

Away from the glitz and hassles of Manila, here’s what struck me on the course of my 6-day visit to my oh so beloved Camsur.

1. Living a simple and contented life simultaneously is possible

Jaw-dropping: How simple country people live and still be so full of life. It’s not simplicity that makes a lifestyle plain. It's our perspective that brings flavor about life.

2. You can actually grow the very food in the table

Country soil is so fertile that you could really grow fruits and veggies in the backyard. It will not just save you a lot of bucks but also the assurance of legit organic goodies. Freshness guaranteed!

3. My money has so much value here

If your backyard can’t contain everything that you need, the local marketplace is your saving grace. They offer a crazy variety of products that you can never find in your favorite supermarket. And you can get your hands on them for a very, very (I mean really) low price! Like can you imagine your 20 pesos getting more than just your typical cornetto?

4. The spirit of bayanihan is still alive

Here’s what I learned: On parties and occasions, some visitors come extra early. And it’s not annoying because they’ll actually help with all your logistical needs. In this place I made sense of an authentic community. Basically a place where people know their neighbors by heart.

5. People are always on-time

If you know me so well, you probably waited for me to do this every time. You’ll realize how late you are when the one you’re supposed to meet went all the way long to fetch you already. I huddled like never before in my life.

6. My inner businesswoman is ready to take off

The business insights I had there is far greater than all my business ideas before in summation. There is just so much potential I am seeing in that side of the world.

7. Reflecting your life is most likely not depressing

I guess everything in the countryside is enchanting. They take your guards down and lure you into some contemplation of how beautiful life has been and the future can be.

8. Days feel longer than nights

This is what it feels like when you’re obliged to wake up so early in the morning because apparently, you're the only one that’s still in bed. Good morning, yet productive day!

9. Love the sun

All I need is sunblock and I can now go all the way through your beauty, Camsur. I can get the most outrageous tan for all I care.

10. God is sooo magnificent

Grand. My leader once said that the beauty we see is the reflection of God’s beauty. While women’s beauty is the reflection of God’s glory. He lets us see what beauty can be and feel the awesome affirmation of what we are seeing at the same time. If the pile of soil coated with grass can make a breathtaking mountain; if a group of clouds touched by the rays of the sun can look like a delightful cotton candy; if a flock of birds in the meadow can look perfectly stunning: How much more is the Creator of all of these?
